The InmanInman Place had been operating as a 55+ Senior Living Community for over a decade. Royse + Brinkmeyer Apartments took over in July 2022 with a plan to bring new life to the building. The plan was to convert the building to an all-ages apartment building with micro-units and access to on-site concierge services (cleaning, meal planning, laundry, etc.) in an effort to keep the current senior tenants but also attract a younger demographic.
The Inman is a registered historic landmark - one of the first buildings built in Downtown Champaign in 1915. Its history is important to the town as well as an attractive feature to market. Royse + Brinkmeyer decided to keep the Inman name in the property name - The Inman. The logo needed to differentiate itself from the previous branding while also honoring the building's storied history. |
The project started with geometric tracings of the original brickwork. What better way to honor the history than to use the building's architecture to inspire the logo?
Once the logo mark was made, we needed an appropriate and attractive word mark. Stealing from the building's now-gone marquee resulted in a mismatch of aesthetics. However, a google search revealed that Caslon No. 373 was published in 1915. The same year the building was completed.
The finished product is a modern interpretation of the building's rich history.
